Get your shit together today!
I don’t make New Year’s resolutions… but what I do like to do is start my year off the right way. How you start isn’t necessarily how you will finish BUT it can’t hurt to start off on the right foot BEFORE the clock strikes midnight because of that beautiful thing called “MOMENTUM”. Would you rather jump over a fence from a stagnant position OR would you rather have a running start? Precisely. Get going TODAY.
Some simple changes you can make today…
PAY YOURSELF 1ST AND SAVE YOUR MONEY
THIS IS HOW YOU SAVE MONEY. Pay into your savings account FIRST. This is called “paying yourself 1st”. STACK YOUR MONEY BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. The easiest way to do this is to send a portion of every single dollar that you earn into a separate savings account. This is NOT spending money. Think of it like paying your future self. 1st you need an EMERGENCY SAVINGS of about 6 months of your living expenses. You need enough money to live comfortably for 6 months on this money without cutting back any basic expenses. After that, save some more. Fill up as many accounts as you can and get familiar with the FDIC and insurable limits. $100,000 is better than $0. And so is $10,000. Every dollar counts. SAVE.
CANCEL UNNECESSARY SPENDING
A lot of people are about to get wiped out financially. It’s not about fear mongering, it’s about reality. Job losses are happening and living expenses are getting higher. Salaries have not budged. Spending wildly at brunch because you have it today, does not mean you will be okay tomorrow. A layoff can happen to anyone. Have fun with your hard earned money, but don’t consistently wild out. We all have a little corner we can cut back on, whether it’s Amazon or brunch or on SHEIN, CUT BACK. You’ll thank yourself later, trust me. You don’t need to order PPV every weekend and you don’t need to be spending $100+ on streaming apps every month. Hone it in, pick 2 apps and only use those for entertainment. You don’t need to be at brunch every weekend and happy hour daily after work, pick one or 2 days where that is okay and the rest of the days you know it’s a “no zone”. DISCIPLINE. TRAIN YOURSELF.
IF IT ISN’T ADDING TO YOUR FORWARD MOTION, THEN DROP IT ASAP
Social media, streaming apps, youtube channels that don’t add to your knowledge.. You know exactly what I’m talking about. The things you spend time on that don't add to your forward progress. This can include people too. That friend group that constantly pressures you to make bad decisions vs the friend group that invites you to yoga class or to run a marathon or to do savings challenges with them. Choose wisely.
UPSKILL TODAY
The job market is ALWAYS changing. In order to keep up, you constantly have to keep gaining more skills. It’s undeniable at this point. Gone are the days of getting by at a dead end job. Every job requires a set of skills (no matter how big or small), and the jobs that pay require more than the average. MAKE A PLAN, STUDY, EXECUTE THAT PLAN. Don’t know where to start? Look up the fastest growing job industries. Find the ones paying on average $85k-$100k TODAY, and have growth in the future and aim for those. Look into infrastructure. Infrastructure can’t go out of business. Like ever. Construction. Technology. Blue collar work like plumbing, roofing, electrical, welding. Computer Science or robotics. These are the industries that always have work and experts in these fields do not go hungry. Pick one and write out a 5 year plan for it.
STICK TO YOUR PLAN & BE CONSISTENT WITH FAITH
Flip flopping gets you NOWHERE. Conviction gets you FAR. Having faith in oneself is the ticket. If you don’t believe in your plan, you won’t work it like you mean it. Which means you’ll likely give up alot sooner than expected. Which means you likely will not succeed. Catch my drift? Believe in yourself. Believing in self is step 1 of being able to stick to your plan and stay consistent. Consistency is a lot easier with faith.
