Have you ever heard of “monk mode”? A monk is defined as a member of a religious community of men typically living under vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. “Monk mode” refers to a mode you get into that is completely focused on self improvement. It usually comes with isolation and full on self reflection to highlight and eliminate weaknesses as well as hone in on personal strengths. Monk mode is nothing new to most in the personal development space. Startup founders, CEOs, athlethes, and entrepreneurs etc all over the world have entered into some version of “monk mode” whether they’re familiar with the name or not. (Look up “monk mode” on YouTube if you need more insight)
I created my own phrase, “STACK MODE”, because not only is there a period of self reflection and getting better, it’s also about building up discipline in both our finances and our minds. In the past, we participated in STACK SEASON (s/o Hugo), a 13 week season focused on stacking (saving) money. STACK MODE is a combination of the two (“stack season” + “monk mode”). I have been doing a combination of both for a few years now and have found that even after 13 weeks, I have adapted much of these guidelines for my day to day life.
STACK MODE is about self induced isolation, self reflection, self improvement, and self education. SELF. This mode is about YOU vs YOU. We all know our #1 enemy standing in the way of true greatness, OURSELVES. So we face that enemy head on for as long as we need to… TO GET BETTER.
What is “Monk Mode”
My first brush with “monk mode” was from deep diving into self help YouTube. I noticed a lot of the vloggers would speak on “monk mode” and its positive effects on bettering themselves in life. They would focus on diet, exercise, getting quality sleep, cutting yourself from all distractions, upskilling, and just all around personal development while staying out of the way. There’s nothing wrong with having a social life, some people just take it too far and end up lost in the sauce. Years will go by and they will have accomplished little to nothing that would make themselves proud. “Monk mode” is a way of stepping away from things to get a clearer view of life, and to better set yourself up for the future.
