College. Trade school. Getting a cert or license that boosts your salary/hourly. Free online classes. It doesn’t matter. Go back and get your education. Start now and get your education. There is a divide that can be seen far and wide: the educated vs the uneducated. And it is more visible today than ever before. The job opportunities at the bottom are shrinking every single day. The middle class ain’t in the middle anymore. They’ve been squeezed into the top and bottom as well. Even the educated are getting squeezed. BUT an education keeps your chances of getting squeezed at a low number.
For example, people are saying that people with computer science degrees can’t find jobs right now. That is true to an extent. They’re not landing those six figure positions out of school anymore with a nice resume. But guess what a computer science major has over a person without a degree… more opportunities. That’s just simple math. They may not be walking into $100k jobs out of college but they can find something for $65k and work their way up. They will get more interviews and doors opened than the person without that kind of knowledge. In 5 years, they have a higher chance of seeing $100k+ in a non manual labor position than the person without the degree. And I’m being generous, it will probably be more than that with experience. That’s just the truth. Same goes for certs and licenses. The people with the knowledge and experience are lapping the person without it any day. Would you rather have a CDL license and be able to get work right now or have no license and only be able to get low skill requirement jobs? Exactly.
So go back to school, WHATEVER SCHOOL LOOKS LIKE FOR YOU. Online. In person. Self learning for a tech cert. Teaching yourself a new skill. Do something. Never become complacent in life.

Khan Academy (great for math from beginner to college level!)
YouTube (the best resource out)
Online colleges (do your own research, check out WGU)
Trade school - get paid while you learn, look into unions for electricians, plumbers, and construction workers.
Check with your current company. Most companies these days have free subscriptions to LinkedInLearning and other resources to give you free training. They may also offer tuition reimbursement or free tuition to certain schools (how I got my associates degree).
Whatever path you choose, just make sure you choose one. Education is one thing that will outlast your ability to do physical labor. Your knowledge can get you paid long past retirement. Think consulting. Teaching. Training. Master those skills now and you will always have a way to eat in the future. It is never too early to think of your life beyond your working age and income is usually the #1 thing people focus on next to health. How do you take a bit of that anxiety? Educate yourself to supply your wealth. Stack on.
