The brain is a beautiful muscle. It is powerful, especially when trained properly. The things you focus on, become a part of you. The more focus you place on something, the more familiar with it you become.. and the better you are at it. Ever wonder why you think the way you do? It’s a combination of everything you’ve fed your eyes and ears. The music you listen to.. the words you read.. the people you choose to surround yourself with.. they all have an impact on your life. They shape your mind. What you focus on, is what you BECOME.
So why do people multitask? Yes, multitasking is very possible and effective in certain scenarios, but all the time… not so much. I can even admit, I work better when I’m focused on ONE task at a time versus multitasking even though I’m great at knocking out multiple things at the same time. (I really just push busting your ass… so whatever that looks like for YOU, do that!)
There are 100000000 plays out there, all you need to do is run ONE of them correctly. So why focus on 10 of them at once when you can focus on one and knock it out of the park? Exactly.
Focus is one thing you don’t play with.
People have fallen victim to social media and having an inside peek into all of these people’s lives. Even mine. I’ll explain. People see me in my career (film industry), real estate business on the side, building FSO for yall, and still finding time to have a garden.. keep up with crypto.. AI.. the list goes on and they try and emulate with their own version all at once. People who do a lot.. usually start with ONE thing and they build things on top of that, brick by brick. I started in real estate around 2008. I started urban farming early 2014. I got into crypto around late 2014. I got into the film/production industry in 2017. I started FSO in 2019. It’s 2024. Everything I speak on, I’ve BEEN DOING. Notice I didn’t start anything on top of anything else. I focused on one thing at a time until I had a decent hang of it and then I added on top of that with things that interested me. I never went into anything with the sole purpose of getting money. I went in with one goal: to learn more than I currently know now. And learn I did at every single twist and turn.
How to FOCUS on one thing at a time
1. Set Clear Goals
Break down what you want exactly into specific, achievable goals. When you have a clear purpose, it’s easier to stay on track. WHAT DO I WANT TO GET DONE IN LIFE? Focus on that alone. Full stop. Before you apply any of the techniques and methods below, you need to have a clear target that you’re aiming at. Rank them from “least important but needs to be completed” all the way to “the most important thing I need to get done, preferably yesterday” and start with the latter. Factor in size of task and time it will take to complete. (Med school vs getting your real estate license). Work your way down. These are your goals. Your job is to focus on #1 until it is complete before moving onto #2 and beyond (basically your side quests). If your #1 goal is to graduate college with an engineering degree, focusing on becoming a medical doctor at the same exact time isn’t smart. Another example of this would be trying to learn how to drive an 18 wheeler while also learning how to ride a motorcycle. Yes, you can do both in one lifetime and there are plenty of people that have done it. Smaller side quests like learning how to swim or play chess can be done while pursuing a degree. You may skip over some goals and snag smaller ones while you’re grinding away at the #1 goal. That’s life. Just keep #1 IN FOCUS AT ALL TIMES.
